Let's dive right into the emotional roller-coaster known as Crescent City.

Wow!!! is one word to describe this book but before I go off on a tangent it's best to start at the beginning. This book is about a half- fae female by the name of Bryce Quinlan who was plunged into the world of tragedy and trauma when her ware-wolf bestfriend Danika and the Pack of Devils were murdered by a demon named Kristallos. But all is not lost when Bryce meets an enslaved fallen angel Hunt Athalar, who was tasked with helping her solve the investigation of the murders, with the approval of the cold and heartless Governor Micah.
Okay now that we know the basics of the book we can get into the nitty gritty of this plot. The twists and turns this plot had blew my mind. While some members of the fandom feel that this wasn't the best performing book, I still think it was a good read. Bryce is this strong willed and stubborn character who has gone through so much and her character development was clearly evident in this book. Bryce started out as this common "life of the party" type of girl who had nothing left to lose so I cannot imagine how she must have felt when she walked into that apartment and found her best friend and friends in pieces... yikes.
We soon find out that Bryce works at a rustic and rather eccentric art gallery and has some weird sunlight power that soon plays a very important role in the storyline but let's not forget the chemistry that was brewing between the fallen angel Hunt and Bryce. Sarah J. Maas does a really good job in the enemies to lovers genre so I certainly wasn't disappointed. When doing an enemy to lover book it is important to gradually build the relationship so it leaves readers on their toes... as readers we LOVE the chase.
As Hunt and Bryce embark on this daunting investigation the web of lies unravels to no end. However we need to acknowledge that Bryce has a brother (Ruhn), the Autumn Prince who is starborn, possessing some obscene amount of starlight power and cool sword. So since they are related it is critical to know that the Autumn King does not consider Bryce part of the family all because she is (drumroll please)... half human. Bryce's mom lives with Robert (a human) who is Bryce's step dad. Hunt also had his fair share of traumatic childhood: his mom died when he was very young, and he got sold into slavery after losing a battle he fought side by side with his lover who unfortunately died. This ultimately led to him being the slave of the famous Governor Micah.
As the story progresses, more and more murders are committed, demons are spotted, a synth drug was discovered, a mega human company was scheming with the government (nothing new), a ancient Fae artifact was stolen, Bryce's' secret power is exposed, the ultimate betrayal takes place and more people get suspected of murder. One of the suspects being Danika's mom who was jealous of Danika being worthy of carrying the almighty sword. One thing that I found really interesting is the way the plot was so perfectly hidden, usually there are clues and information disclosed to the audience before it is made known to the protagonist, but when we discovered that Hunt was buying Synth (a deadly drug) to over through his owner Micah and Micah actually killed Danika because she knew he was behind stealing the synth and releasing it to the public to avenge "his people" ... I was ready to throw the book to the floor... seriously, because I then realized I was only half way through the plot twists.
At this point Hunt was sold back to his previous owner Sandriel, (his dead lover's twin sister) who will decide his impending fate because she despises him. Micah then decides to go off on our poor Bryce... remember that artifact mentioned earlier? well we find out that Bryce IS THE HORN that was stolen out of the museum the night Danika died, turns out Danika was one step ahead of the game and tattooed the "chant" that will bring the horn to life on Bryce's back... mind you that the horn can bring demons into society... not something I would be too thrilled about if you ask me.. Micah was obviously being greedy and wanted to rule the world, but despite the fight Bryce put up demons still ended up being released into the city.
The book ends with a huge full blown battel between vanir, humans and demons... sounds like loads of fun. This book was a thrill to read and full of adventure, I loved the mystery and love tale between Bryce and Hunt, while it doesn't explicitly mention where the two of them end up, (insert couch scene, *if you read the book you'll know*) in my imagination they seem pretty happy, I obviously couldn't mention everything that goes down in the book because, It would take forever.
Book Rating: 4/5
Favorite Character/s: Syrinx and Lehabah (read the book and you'll find out).
