The first installment of A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Mass completely blew me away and the second book, a Court of Mist and Fury is no different. This book was like nothing I thought it would be, it totally through me for a loop but, that was my favorite thing about it.

The first book ended on such a high as Feyre and Tamlin were to be married and I'm sure it left many fans looking forward to seeing their love story play out but, a book with such a happy ending... is way too good to be true. I haven't been much of a Fantasy reader before which is quite funny seeing that most of my previous posts have been just that. After A Court of Thorns and Roses I was on such a high, with all the adventures, betrayal and a compelling from enemies to lovers story, that I just had to get my hands on the second book to see the romance between these two characters I'd come to love so much blossom but, that quickly evaporated once I saw the writing on the wall.

After Feyre made the bargain with Rhysand to spend one week a month at the Night Court and being turned into a Faerie herself, there were so many ways that I thought the scenario would play out (possibly in a brutal battel between the two men) but Feyre falling in love with Rhysand was a complete 180 and to be honest I was at war with myself because I fell in love with a completely different relationship. I also refused to believe that two people who'd been through that much to save each other would no way be torn apart. After a few chapters I realized what a brilliant way to keep both of their stories moving as individuals. Tamlin was portrayed as an upstanding protective character but, his love and the constant need to protect Feyre became like a poison and I was really struggling to keep this ship afloat in my head. Obviously, the more time she spent with Rhysand the more she was drawn to his character and the darkness that broods inside of them both.

In the book we quickly learn that there is a much bigger villain than the evil and cruel Faerie Queen Amarantha... the King of Hyburn, who plans on eliminating all humans in Prythian and wage war in all courts. Despite the adventures, battles and fights all the characters have had to go through, the ending of this book was pure genius!!! When most readers found out that Tamlin had deceived Feyre and sold out the Night Court and her sisters to the King of Hyburn we all found another reason to despise his character even more.

The hidden plot (Rhysand and Feyre's marriage) which the author kept a secret towards the end of the book was so cleverly thought out and the timing of her being re-instated with Tamlin in an act to save the other members of the Night Court was just the cherry on top. The one critique I had for the first book was that I wish I saw more of Feyre's sisters and Sarah J. Mass definitely delivered in this book, as we even read that Elaine has found a mate in Lucien. I'm super excited to get into their storylines in book three,

I was always looking forward to the next chapter of this book because I had so many sleepless nights wondering what would come next. Rest assured that I will be purchasing A court of Wings and Ruin as soon as possible.

Rating: 4/5

Favorite Character: Feyre (She's a complete boss woman)

Happy reading everyone!!!
